Place of installation and Loadings

The appropriate class of manhole cover or gully grate to be used depends on the place of installation.

(1)The various places of installation have been divided into groups numbered 1 to 6.

(2)Figure a and figure b show the location of some of these groups in a highway environment.

(3)A guide as to which class of manhole top or gully top should be used is shown in parenthesis for each group.

(4)The selection of the appropriate class is the responsibility of the designer.Where there is any doubt the stronger class should be selected.
